WH team rider Matt Thames takes 1st place in the Men’s Pro Freestyle at the 2011 Superfly Open.

"When we arrived at Strawberry Res. for the Superfly, It was late night and completely blizzarding. We awoke to the most surreal sight, The sun was shining across two feet of fresh, pure, Utah powder. Some of the best snow on the planet!

We met up with film producer Buster Tronolone, and began to capture one of the best days I've had all season. The first two days of the event were plagued with stormy weather and little or no wind. By Sunday the anxiety was high and every single kiter there was thankful for the steady 15-25mph winds. The power and grunt pull of the 15m Big Mama was the only way to get through the waist deep snow.

Competitions started in the afternoon with the course race, followed by the freestyle event. For this year's Superfly event the crew brought in a snowcat to create "ski resort" style terrain park features and two nice sliders that were super fun. After riding for several hours we rolled the "rabbit ride" into town for the after-party and team Wainman Hawaii pulled in another 1st place win!

Now it's off the Idaho for the Snowkite Soldier event and the sick terrain of the Camas Priarie, Idaho." -Matt Thames
