Wijk aan Zee - wind is here
DAY 36
We woke up and gathered around the breakfast table for a huge breakfast and internet time. The place was immaculate when we arrived and due to the dirty dozen rabbits we pretty much messed it up but as always left the place how we found it.
Today Chris sister - Nanouk - and her two huge dogs (one looking exactly like a wolf) was our guide, as Chris had a friends bachelor party to attend. We headed to the spot Wijk aan Zee, another up-scale beach club located right on the sand in the spot of hundreds of kites and riders, including our old fellow friend Ruben Lenten in his black and yellow wetsuit, who greeted us with open arms and welcome drink. Ruben is one crazy dude and a kite duke of all dutch resorts and it was real nice of him he didn`t force us to drink all day together as we still had some work to do!
The crew set up the demo station and in grey rainy sky's and right away the locals tried out the gear. The spot is sheltered by a huge Jeti just upwind and for miles downwind you can see more kites than Tarifa. This day was rainy and cold and everything was sandy and our campers smell like wet dog.
We also got to meet Harry Ter Horst - the winner of the 1st edition of Gangspace contest (the 2nd edition is finishing at the end of August and then the new one begins) and even got treated to a steak dinner after we signed his blunt 135 board that he traded for the surfboard he won as he already had one.
Also in the spot are lots of wind-mills and birds that somehow dodge the blades by inches. We laughed as one of us said, in America there would be engines on them with exhaust pipe.
Finally we left, soaked and stinky to head to Chris' sister's house on our way to Scheveningen. Nanouk kindly offered us her pad to crash for the night after searching for hours to find a location for us to sleep. Thanks Nanouk and Chris for the hookup.
