The Gypsy Magician joins the Tour
DAY 11
The wind was blasting hard in the morning as the Rabbit Gang and friends awoke to people yelling, "Franz is here!" The magician had arrived finally after his long travels to join the Rabbit Gang Tour. We were all so happy to see him.
A few moments later our good friend Raphael Salles showed up poking his head in the window and with his classic laugh he gave us a warm welcome to the spot. It was great to see him as he is a very original kitesurfer who helped us all out in our journey to where we are today.
We tried to drive down to the spot, but the campers couldn't fit through the Rock pass that lead to the beach. Luckily our host and Wainman Hawaii distributor, Pierre from SpinCo had a smaller van on hand and we were able to load all the Rabbits, Blunts, Jokes, Cruisers and Surfs into his "mobile home". His girlfriend was so nice to let us throw all that stuff inside their "palace". Sorry for all the sand in your bed tonght :)
Once at the kite point spot, the demo Bunnies, Gypsies and Smokes were all set up for the crowd of locals. Franz "The Gypsy" went out first on a white Gypsy and put on a real show for everybody and got everybody's adrenaline pumping to ride (as usual). One by one like aircraft taxing for takeoff the rabbit gang joined the crowded spot, we had tons of fun as riding with Franz really pumps your blood. You can't help but watch him while you ride. After an hour or so, we all headed in for some cool drinks and the second wave of riders took the demo gear for a spin.
I guess you might say that the kites were selling like hot cakes. This one guy from Holland bought 15 Rabbits for his large family and friends right there on the spot. He said he just had to have them that day or he was going to be very sad the rest of his vacation. That's the power of the Rabbit demo - once you try it, you instinctively know that it's the only kite you need for the rest of your life.
Next up we announced a Jam Session. The WH crew rigged even more kites for everyone who wanted to participate. We handed out different color Rabbit Gang lycras to all the free spirits who joined our Jam Session. The judges Lou, Franz, Niccolo, Bertrand and Raphael headed to the tip of the point. There were lots of guys (and 1 brave female) who competed for half an hour to see who would win the new Blunt board and 9 meter Rabbit Smoke kite.
If you don't know about Rabbit Jam Sessions, the basic idea is this: to see who has the most fun out there, along with ability or worst wipeout. For the women the award went to Caty from Belgium for her beautiful, tumbling wipeout and super positive vibe. The men's winner was a local freestyle ripper - Leo, who really impressed the judges with his technical style and speed of tricks. The judging was close for the men's division, so an honorable mention has to go to Diego for jumping over a 20-meters-wide sand bank and his impressive kiteloops. But really, Big Mahalos to all those who participated for a great show!
After the very sucessful Jam Session we squeezed in last minute freestyle showdown for the Gang. That was a blast again. After packing up we all hit the road driving on gas fumes and dry water tanks to Montpilliar to shower and spend the night at Franz's castle. Before we got there, first we stopped at a small peacefull outdoor resturant in the heart of Montpilliar and had steaks and salad with the hosts as we had not a decent meal in a couple days. We hope that the crazy fun continues tomorrow. Wish us good winds, Rabbits...
