Scheveningen & Hoek v Holland - no wind but still lot of fun
DAY 37 & 38
Scheveningen had no wind our whole stay, Scheveningen is hard to spell but fun to say. If you ask me how we got there I couldn't tell you the way... But luckily for us Chris Immers our energizer Netherlands representative lead the way. The dude tattooed his car the old fashion way and sewed Wainman Hawaii logo in the leather of his Mercedes - insane and definitely the best car we have seen during the whole 11.000 km drive through whole Europe. Good for you Chris !!!
Since we were not going to be camped out all days at the beach end of town doing demos and riding, we headed to the heart of the trippy village to find our inland reserved accommodation.
The town is consisting of like 1,000 year old perfectly made smooth grey stone Churches, combined with various Thai & Chinese restaurants, a couple dollar stores, shoe stores and salons.
Anyhow we managed to find parking spots in the handicap space for our big campers as close to our place – Jordy's Hostel (Jorplace), the only surf hostel in Scheveningen that luckily is owned by our friend and fellow kiteboarder.
He hooked us up with some rooms and covered our tab at his super wicked surf style accommodations thats more like a groovy rock star hotel with some trippy stoney words and pictures wrote all over the brightly colored walls in the 4 stories, 15 room center town hotel location.
When we arrived the whole tiled first floor was spilt beer sticky from the 2nd year hotel opening celebrations the night before. The rooms were white with like 2x4 meter space, with red army style bunk beds but with big cushy mattresses and super white package of clean sheets, pillow case and blanket cover.
We prepared to stay indoors mostly this stop of our journey since the forecast was bleek for the next few days, by ways like doing laundry, shopping for razors and deodorant, more blank paper and pencils, coffee cups (that seemed to grow legs along our journey), hooking up laptops, and getting online, and general reorganizing our personal things.
Once we got settled, cleaned up, beds made up, and four of us had a door key card, we headed out to find food. Luckily the Thai restaurant next door was still open as well as the kebab joint on the corner, so the gang quickly ordered up some grub and headed back to the blue glowing R.V. parked out front the hostel, where Ben our video master was editing and working away on his computer. After some beers curbside with the cops next to the big camper the gang called it a night and some guys stayed on the street in the camper beds while others slept indoors the hostel room.
The town is mellow and at night the cool wind calmly blows through the windows that only open 4 inch and so sleeping was unusually comfortable almost where you don't want to sleep it feels so nice. Anyhow we had some pretty good meals and relaxation these 2 days with lots of down-time and wandering around enjoying the life. No wind usually sucks but Netherland offers so many nice little things, that no matter what, you can still stay relaxed and happy. That's the spirit we are talking about !!!
The next day we went to meet and present the new gear at one of our dealers – Kiteboardshop. Menno, the owner, with the rest of the shop crew were very interested in all new boards and couldn't wait to try it for real. Menno event went up riding but he managed to do it only with Big Mama and SUP – Big Mama becomes Wainman real SUP kite.
As the wind was still not coming there was not much option and so we had a good lunch (thnx Menno @ kiteboardshop!), played some soccer with Lisa who showed up to hang with the gang, and this girl can play soccer, after that we had a nice dinner all together and some good laughs.
Thank you Chris and all other good Dutch people !!! – just make sure next time we come there is wind :)
