Leaving France
DAY 27
We woke up early in our rented eco lodges made completely of the recycled plastic. They are apparently super energy efficient as they only have 2 power outlets in a 5 bed hut ;) Anyways we rush cleaned the place of our mess and headed quickly out of town with the goal to catch the ferry to cross the English Channel by 6ish. As both campers raced at 130 km/h and about 80 to 90 in the city streets approaching the harbor, the Rabbit RV's jockeyed for poll position in the last curves and roundabouts. We had arrived earlier than expected so we decided to make a little surprise visit to Nicko at small but totally packed surf shop ActionFun in St. Malo town. After the shop visit we rushed once again to grab some food at a nearby strip mall and then headed back to enter the ferry on time. It was quite funny at the boarder patrol, each of our camper vans occupants had to make poker faces trying not to giggle as the officers were really shocked to see 2 campers with 6 nationalities inside and horror font writings with GANG all over. Luckily Franz knows the way to speak to French cops and even though some of us had warrants on their heads as the passport computer indicated, they let us go with smiles.
We passed into the auto waiting lines to board the futuristic twin turbine hydrodynamic monster vessel.
We boarder the ferry which departed 1 hour later than planned. Inside, after some snacks and Mike getting caught by the guards sleeping below in the R.V. and escorted upstairs, the gang curled up in a corner using life jackets as pillows and took a snooze. Some couldn't sleep due to the guy playing the slot machine next to them and so decided to go on top to check out the moon and admire the huge wake this boat left behind and the speed we were moving at. Around 2 a.m. we arrived in England, ferry landed in the harbor and us, we jumped in the Rabbit Mobiles that were first to depart the boat due to the oversize of them and as a consequence having them parked next to the ferry gates. We quickly found that with lack of sleep, wet roads and driving on the left in the middle of the night - was a big challenge. Luckily our hotel destination was close by as the gps guided us to some beds. We arrived around 3 in the morning to our rooms after a long check-in process of convincing the desk clerk that the 8 or 9 of us only needed 2 rooms. We were stoked to be on solid ground and to find clean towels and sheets and comfortable cool quiet rooms that had T.V.'s
