Guincho
DAY 15
Wow ! it was a windy day for sure, we woke up in the pimp surf hostel about a mile from the beach and the gang had a simple breakfast and after a quick photo-shoot for the winner of the gang-space contest (check it out at http://www.wainmanhawaii.com/gangspace) we headed in a rush to Guincho spot to find some decent surf breaking and some strong strong wind.
Luckily we got front row parking on the hill and everybody grabbed the demo gear and set up our site for the locals to check out the goods. In the morning Franz and Lou went out on 6.5 Gypsy's as Franz followed Lou around with a video camera and Niccolo and Bertrand were being filmed by Ben and Shaddixx the media guys.
The wind was blasting for the demo kiters to try the 5 and 7 meter rabbits while the 9's sheltered the resting riders from the sand blasting beach. About every hour we would have to unbury boards, bars and kite bags due to the sand piling up and covering the equipment.
The people were stoked today as they didn't have small kites and the rabbits were putting a lot of smiles on the people's faces. There were 2 guys from Australia who came here to surf and due to the gale force winds asked to borrow kite gear and new gambler boards to ride as the surf was blown out and ideal for kiting today. After a few hours they came in with the biggest eyes and smiles and wouldn't stop talking about the gear. Thats the power of the Rabbit kite, all you need to do is try it and you are in Love. The demo kiters went all day and the event was a great promotional success due to the new gear and such strong conditions. Mike Husky our company manager had a great first day on tour for sure, he rode the 5'10" magnum strapped, with the quad fin setup and a 7 meter gypsy and was so stoked like a guy who just won the lottery.
After the sessions, the crew managed to get the gear off the beach and packed away in 40 plus knots of wind that would rip the car door off if you parked the wrong way. Once inside the campers we all looked like the coyote in the road runner cartoon when he gets blown up with hair standing up and skin red and dirty from the dusty beach parking lot. Finally we headed back to the house to get some showers, looking in the meantime for the world cup 3rd place battle and then head to dinner, together with Franz (a different Franz - our board factory R&D manager) and his lovely wife Sissi.
It's our last night in Guincho as we move to a new spot tommorow with flat water and even more people. This place is really special and I can see why many people here are always smiling.
BTW, happy Aniversary Jill, Love you Lou
