First day in England - Shops in Poole

DAY 28
As last night we arrived to our hotel quite late waking up wasn`t easy.  When we came out Phil Rawcliff - our great English agent - was already waiting for us in the lobby. We ate traditional here rich breakfast with lots of eggs and bacon and then aimed towards our first stop, the S2AS kite-shop. Before the Gang jumped into cars we gathered for a sec around the parking lot where everybody was quite surprised and impressed to receive from Phil, a clean, color printed and professional plan for next 5 British days. It is quite of a change comparing to how things were handled just couple days ago in the Iberic South. Another big change is how those dudes drive over here on the wrong side of the road, but this is old story…

First on our list was a visit to the spoken and famous S2AS Store, conveniently located just downwind of the coffee roasting shop and cafe/bar on the corner. In this really nice, clean and very well equipped (New Blunts already here!) kite-shop we met the owner, super energetic Angelo and his cool staff. It is nice to meet really motivated and professional kiteboarding retailers with lots of fun smile, kitesurfing passion and excitement about our new product. Of course, like all Brits,  with lots of other comments, market knowledge and very unique English sense of humor that would escort us all the way until Dover through pretty much each and single conversation that we had.
After the initial shop talk, some of us continued the technical product presentations and others sat outside with Phill to chill. They sipped English version of espresso, in order to continue our European Coffee Rabbit Ranking, not too bad we have to say, not bad!

Next we swung by another important British shop, The King of Watersports.com where we met up with Charlie and Charlotte and their really nice crew. This company doesn’t have an actual storefront location but specializes in the on-line sales with lots of A-Z phone guidance to the customers. Good product knowledge is probably a secret of their trade as definitely all guys here were also very carefully listening to our presentations of new toys. This definitely made us proud and happy. In the meantime King ordered a batch of pizzas and so we regained some forces as it was already the afternoon. With some good laughs we continued our chats and even played some street soccer outside the office.

However Poole is not a big city, but it definitely is one of the most popular summer resorts here in England, and so don’t be surprised that after our second shop visit we headed to meet one more place, The HYDR8. This family run shop is located in a smaller storefront closer to the beach. It is more of a kite/surf/skate center rather than just a retail store, as more than just that, they also have here a full-on-professional , WH branded, kite-school with advanced freestyle clinics available, as well as the official test center of our products. Privately owned by mellow and uniquely smart dude, our friend Justin, his bro Adam and their real fun local kite-crew from Poole. Once we got to their shop we chilled out for some good while and finally relaxed a bit as there was no more shop-stops today, ufff...

We hang out with them for a couple hours until Rou from Ikitesurf.com pulled up in his van for an online interview and video shoot. Real cool freestyler he is.  Afterward some of the guys went to check out the kite spot and play soccer while others went first back to the hotel to shower up and change to warmer clothes for the evening.

Our great English hosts then invited us all to a huge feast. Then drinks at a bar where Niccolo ended up grabbing a nice big longboard and played crazy with the traffic. It’s funny how all eyes are on Niccolo when he decides to jump into action. We definitely were proud of our young Bunny, however we have to admit that his skate ride provoked locals a bit and it was really amazing to see just couple minutes later a 250 pounds King riding head down between cars, performing a very unique skelleton midnight ride. Respect.
Next we re-located to another pub and hung out for a couple more hours. We shut the place down and returned to the hotel. It was a definitely a super long day after which we slept so good with the window open and cool air blowing like an airconditioner on high.

One interesting observation from today: however all those shops share the same scene but they are all good friends who by night hang out and party together. This is really something that inspires and makes you feel good. Real Aloha Spirit! Right on!
